Games and sports
Sport here is about more than keeping fit. It teaches discipline, teamwork and how to win and lose well. Every student plays for their house, and the best go on to represent the school at district and national level.
Applications are open for Senior 1, Senior 5 and transfer students.
Sport is part of school
Games time is on the timetable. In the afternoons, students leave the classroom for the field, the court and the track, where they learn different lessons: how to lead under pressure, how to lose well and how to work as one team.
Every student from Senior 1 to Senior 6 takes part through their house. Those who do well in house games are picked for the school team and play against other schools in the district, and some go on to national school championships.
"The discipline you build on the field follows you into the exam room and into life."

More about sport
- 1House competitionsEvery term, the four houses, St. Joseph, St. Mary, St. Patrick and St. Theresa, compete in every sport at school. Every student takes part through their house, and points go towards the house cup.
- 2District gamesStudents who stand out in house games are picked for the school team. The team plays schools from Mpigi District and nearby in games run by the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA). Players are picked for how they play, how they behave and how committed they are.
- 3National championshipsSchools that win at district level go on to the USSSA national championships, the highest level of school sport in Uganda. Players at this level are seen by universities, clubs and national team selectors.
Discipline
Training on time, every time, builds habits that help in class too.
Teamwork
No match is won alone. Students learn to talk to each other and decide quickly.
Strength of mind
Losing, being dropped or coming from behind builds students who do not give up.
Leadership
Captains learn to lead their friends when the pressure is on.
Good health
Exercise helps students sleep better, feel better and concentrate in class.
School pride
Wearing the school colours against other schools is something students remember for life.
Further studies
- Some Ugandan universities give extra help with entry to talented sports people
- A record of playing at USSSA level can support an application
- Good grades together with a sports record make a stronger applicant
- Physical Education and Sports Science can be studied at university
Work in sport
- National school championships are watched by clubs and national selectors
- Coaching and sports management are growing careers in Uganda
- Refereeing, sports journalism and running sports events are other paths
Only a few players become professionals, but sport can lead to many other careers. We make sure students know about all of them.
